TransLink project will host the “2015 Glycoimmunology Training Course” at Tel Aviv University, Israel

The TransLink project is pleased to host the 2015 Glycoimmunology Training Course to share knowledge in the area of degeneration of BHV and bring closer excellent scientist to immunological responses involved in this process.

The course

The goal of the course is to expose international students to the growing field of glycoimmunology. This will cover both clinical and laboratory state-of-the-art techniques with the final aim to stimulate the student’s innovative and cutting edge thinking to address important clinical and research discoveries.

This training activity will take place at Tel Aviv University, Israel, on Monday 19th October to Wednesday 21st October and it will count with deeply involved instructors, as well as excellent keynote international speakers, whose wide experience in xenotransplantation, glycoimmunology and computational  fields will give the students a real added value.

Furthermore, six travel grants will be allocated covering travel and accommodation expenses throughout the course; thereby the excellence of our candidates will be the only existent threshold and limitation.

About TransLink Project

TransLink, “Defining the role of xeno-directed and autoimmune events in patients receiving animal-derived bioprosthetic heart valves” is an FP7 Collaborative Project funded by the European Comission under Grant Agreement no. 603049.

The aim of the project is to assess the mid-to-long term risk factors for failure and improve the outcome of animal-derived Bioprosthetic Heart Valves (BHV) implants. This is an important issue, since cardiac valve disorder is the third most frequent cardiovascular illness, and cardiac valve replacement the second most frequent cardiac surgery. Every year, over 200,000 patients benefit from BHV, which have significant advantages over mechanical prosthetic valves. However, BHV clinical outcome suffers from premature dysfunctions, restricting their use to patients over 65 years old.
